Excellent Teacher - Faculty Edition

Excellent Teacher LogoThe Office for Student Success provides and manages Excellent Teacher: Faculty Edition, a course developed for University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) faculty. Excellent Teacher: Faculty Edition is an online, self-paced course that is offered through Canvas, UMMC's learning management system.

Excellent Teacher: Faculty Edition is the faculty version of the Excellent Teacher course, which was designed for medical residents, fellows and other appropriate trainees. The purpose of the course is to 1) educate faculty about effective teaching and 2) present faculty with the Excellent Teacher curriculum designed for residents/fellows so that they may model appropriate behavior and encourage professional development in all types of learners (students, residents, fellows, and other trainees). It includes information related to teaching and communication, curriculum design, feedback and evaluation, and ethics and professionalism.

Course instructions

The Excellent Teacher: Faculty Edition course is made up of various modules and evaluations related to principles of teaching and learning, and the course is offered through Canvas. To register for the course, click on the icon below and complete the registration form.

Register for Excellent Teacher

Once you are registered, you will receive an email confirmation. Then, to complete the course, follow the steps listed below.

  1. Log into Canvas using your UMMC username and password.
  2. Click on Courses, and click on the Excellent Teacher: Faculty Edition course. Familiarize yourself with the Excellent Teacher: Faculty Edition course, and click on Modules to begin.
  3. Click on the first item, and proceed through the modules until all are complete. Note: You may log in and out of Canvas, completing the modules at your own pace and convenience.
  4. Click on Grades to ensure that you have received credit for all assignments.
